About Newark
Being an ex resident of Fernwood, I can fully appreciate the excellent location that Newark offers. For those that can remember the previous A46 road through Farndon, Nottingham is now easily reached and with the new southern bypass nearing completion hopefully it’ll further reduce traffic in the town centre. If it’s commuting on the train you’re after then London KX is under 80 mins away and Lincoln / Nottingham is within 30 mins. Situated on the banks of the River Trent, Newark is a town steeped in history. The ruins of the Newark Caste have had a huge influence on the unique character of the town. If retail therapy interests you, there’s an array of shops in the town centre with Newark market open throughout the week and offering a mixture of fruit, veg, flowers, fish, dairy goods and general retail goods. For larger Grocery shopping there is; Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose & Partners, Aldi and M&S Simply Food. The town has three main mixed secondary schools. The older, Magnus Church of England Academy, The Newark Academy (formerly The Grove School) and The Suthers School opened in 2020 and located on the edge of Fernwood village. The town’s several primary schools include a new school on the Middlebeck development on the town’s southern edge, opened in 2021.Depending on your needs, Newark has homes for all buyers. Glebe Park offers substantial executive homes ranging from £650,000 - £900,000 most with triple garages and sat on substantial plots. There’s some splendid period properties off London Road and more affordable homes (under £200,000) within Hawtonville. If you’re a lover of new homes then Fernwood & Middlebeck must be considered. The nearby villages of Farndon, Coddington, Winthorpe, Collingham and Long Bennington need to be checked out depending on your requirements. A little further afield yet extremely popular is the minster town of Southwell although you’ll find house prices substantially higher than Newark.
